DEMARCUS COUSINS INJURY UPDATE – 4/16
Obnoxious Sports! Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins, who exited last night’s Game 2 against the Los Angeles Clippers with 8:09 remaining in the first quarter, underwent an MRI exam earlier this morning in the Bay Area. The MRI confirmed that Cousins has suffered a torn left quadriceps muscle. The injury will sideline Cousins indefinitely and he will begin rehabilitation immediately. Updates on his progress will be provided as appropriate.
A Tuesday morning MRI revealed that Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins has a torn left quad, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed with The Chronicle.
The Athletic was first to report the news.
Cousins is still waiting to learn the exact extent of the tear, a source said. Odds are high that he is done for the postseason.
After his team’s 135-131 loss to the Clippers in Game 2 of the first round, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said of Cousins, “There’s a pretty significant quad injury. We’ll get an MRI (Tuesday). But he’s going to be out for I’ll just say a while because I think it’s unclear right now how long he’ll be out. It’s significant.”
This is a devastating setback for Cousins, who signed with the Warriors last summer largely for the chance to chase a championship. Before Game 1 on Saturday, Cousins hadn’t appeared in a playoff game.
He missed almost a year with an Achilles injury he suffered in January 2018. While with the Pelicans last spring, Cousins was forced to watch from the bench as New Orleans swept Portland in the first round and fell to the Warriors in the Western Conference semifinals.
Worriors big man down again! DeMarcus just got back in the game towards the end of the season and now this. Hopefully the Warriors can pull through or does this look like he might be at the end of his car with the NBA. If the Warriors win at least he will get a right by default.
