Joe Budden threw some serious shade at Lil Yachty, claiming he was bad for hip-hop. Unsurprisingly, Yachty’s dad Shannon McCollum isn’t feeling it. Lil Boat’s dad took matters into his own hands when he clapped back at the Jersey MC on Instagram.
Shannon McCollum a successful celebrity photographer and not new to the industry. Perhaps it is all his work with artist through the years that has assisted him navigating a successful career for his son. Shannon has toured with John Legend and most recently DL Hugely. Many times you can take some negative criticism with a grain of salt, but when it comes to your only son you would not expect any other reaction.
Uploading a screenshot of from XXL article on the whole skirmish, McCollum called Budden out for being a hater looking to gain fame off his ascendant son.
“Only reason I’m posting this so I can publicly say FUCK #joebudden Nigga u have no relevance in Hip Hop!! And on my life I bet when his album drop his numbers will be better than any project you have released. He’s done more in 1 yr than you’ve done your whole wack ass career. FOH niggas love trying they best to pull somebody down instead of lifting somebody up! Get that free press bruh off the back of my young’n but u still a cornball! #oldwackrapperissues ,” McCollum captioned the photo.
The original spat began when Budden shot down the notion of Yachty being hip-hop. “I don’t think Yachty is hip-hop. I don’t think Yachty’s label is hip-hop, and when you’re not hip-hop and you’re trying to just troll or exploit, you get things like this album cover, which is to draw attention to music that’s not drawing attention,” Budden said in the clip.
For his part, Yachty tweeted out Lil B’s 2010 Budden diss, “T-Shirts and Buddens,” along with the words, “My mood.” Budden responded by replying “Fuck your mood.” Not too much happened after that.
Budden’s not the first rap figure to call Yachty out, but it looks like he might be the last to do so without getting a response from the young rapper’s dad. You can check out what Yachty’s father has to say about the matter in the Instagram post below.
