Can you tell when you’re dealing with a brother who’s on the down low? We like to think that we can tell when we’re barking up the wrong tree, but that’s not always the case. These celebrity men (and women) had the world fooled — or at least that’s the assumption that was made when either their own actions or someone else’s mouth outted them. We’re not confirming anyone’s sexual orientation here, but whether or not these celebs are in or out of the closet, at the very least they’ve got some skeletons in there. You know our word for Down Low is Pineapple Juice Drinker (PJD) and the following is a list of celebrities that we cannot confirm sexuality, but they were busted or outed due to their questionable behavior
Mister Cee
This has to be the worst way to get caught out there. Mister Cee used to be a big-name producer who once worked with the Diddy and the Notorious B.I.G. But then he suffered a series of unfortunate events.
First, he got caught by the PO receiving oral favors from a man named Lawrence Campbell (who went by the name Brookle-Lynne Pinklady on the corner) in a spot that the cops say was “open to public view”. That was in March 2011.
Mister Cee denied the charges, and some of us believed him. That was until this May. Then the Hot 97 DJ was arrested again. This time it was for soliciting sex from an undercover cop in Brooklyn — a male cop. Now most of us consider the case closed.
Teddy Pendergrass
Back in 1982, Teddy’s life was turned upside down by a severe car accident. The accident left him permanently paralyzed, and his career took a hit too. The tabloids soon revealed that his passenger in the accident was post-op transsexual Tenika Watson. Teddy gave the usual “just giving her a ride home” story, but the world wasn’t buying. Teddy P. remained unofficially out of the closet until the day he died.
Prodigy
Sometimes the rumor mill shines the light right in the closet. Prodigy’s fellow Mobb Deep member Havoc first outed his music partner Prodigy to the world on Twitter. The two were feuding at the time and Prodigy said that it wasn’t true.
But then, Ferg Brim — one of the founding members of the original Mobb Deep — went on the radio to confirm that what Havoc said was true. You can’t always believe word of mouth. But when it’s words from two independent mouths, it can sound something like the truth.
Now that Prodigy and Havoc aren’t feuding anymore, some of the animosity has died down. But cooler heads didn’t dampen the rumor. In an interview commemorating the new Mobb Deep, Havoc said he was sorry about the way he treated his former partner:
“The tweets definitely happened and I take my part in that,” said Havoc. “When family goes through things it’s like, they shouldn’t be handled in the streets. I definitely take responsibility for that.”
A lot of people noticed that he didn’t say Prodigy wasn’t gay, just that he was sorry that he said it.
Eddie Long (middle)
Bishop Young Boy Booty Licking Eddie Long’s congregation was shocked in 2010 when four boys came forward to say that the Georgia minister coerced them into sex. Bishop Eddie Long said that he had nothing to do with those boys. A fifth guy came forward and never filed a lawsuit because he did not have to and got paid. Although, Centino lied he later admitted he met Dick Tracy off Craiglist. It seems while in Charlotte Eddie Long hired Centoino for his services.
But soon after the scandal went public, his wife filed for divorce, he resigned from New Birth church and settled with the boys out of court for an undisclosed amount. Now it’s three years later and Eddie’s back at his megachurch with his wife at his side.
Kerry Rhodes
Kerry, Kerry, Kerry. Rumors about Kerry and “Mr. Hollywood” have been circulating for a while. And Kerry’s response has been “deny, deny, deny. When the paparazzi snapped photos of the two hugged up, Kerry said it wasn’t what it looked like.
But then, Mr. Hollywood released a series of intimate text message between the two and a video. Kerry is still in denial mode, but folks are finding it harder to believe him. It was interesting that Mr. Hollywood quickly went away, but admitted to getting a nice payoff to keep quite about the nature of his relationship with Kerry.
Raven Symone
Raven Symone says her private life is private. But she let the paparazzi into her bedroom business when she started stepping out with out-of-the-closet AzMarie Livingston and posing for photographs.
Once the story went viral, Raven Symone turned to Twitter:
“‘I’m living my PERSONAL life the way I’m happiest. I’m not one, in my 25 year career to disclose who I’m dating. and I shall not start now.
“My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I’m datings to know. I’m not one for a public display of my life. That is my right as a HUMAN BEing whether straight or gay. To tell or not to tell. As long as I’m not harming anyone.”
Since Raven has come into her own and has admitted to being a lesbian on The View, where she is a cohost. On any given day you will find Raven discussing her lifestyle and admitting to being gay.
John Travolta
In 2011, cruise line employee Fabian Zanzi accused John Travolta of sexually harassing him. John denied the rumors and made Zanzi look like just another disgruntled employee. But once the story was out, a lot of other men came forward to say they’d been propositioned and harassed by the mega star. John still denies that he’s gay, but the mounting evidence is getting harder and harder to refute.
Queen Latifah
The Queen was really trying to keep her private life on the DL. But the paps are everywhere and they eventually caught her all booed up with her personal trainer Jeanette Jenkins.
Despite common knowledge of her lady love and a visit to the pride parade, the Queen still won’t come out publicly. She recently quipped, “I’ve never dealt with the question of my personal life in public. It’s just not gonna happen.”
Although, it is for the most part understood that she is a lesbian. It has been rumored that she does not like the beauty and makeup stuff, but understands it is show business. Playing Cleo, in the movie Set It Off, was a truer depiction of who she really is privately. Even he latest movie Bessie she had no trouble in living her truth through the women she has portrayed.
Benny Medina (middle)
Before Benny Medina outed himself, Will Smith caught wind that Benny was about to get himself caught up in a scandal involving accusations of sex with an under-aged boy.
Will supposedly didn’t want his name in that mess so he fired Benny quick, fast and in a hurry. But in the end, things turned out pretty well for Mr. Medina. This is what an industry insider had to say about the situation:
“Will fired Benny abruptly because a rumor was pointing to Benny as a man about to catch an case for sex with an underage boy. Allegedly the case remained under wraps because Benny handled it outside of the legal system. Benny was going to get exposed so he decided to come out the closet. Benny wasn’t happy when he dated Beverly Johnson, Beverly was his beard.
Benny appeared relieved when he came out the closet, dude had a huge coming out party. It was like a gay parade, men dressed in dresses and Isht, Benny was wearing a wig that night and red lipstick. Jacky, when these guys come out the closet, they’re the happiness people you’ve ever seen.”
Ronaldo
The Brazilian soccer superstar was caught by the police with not one but three transvestites. He cried during the interview saying that he thought the dudes were really ladies. But we’ve seen a picture of one of them and that’s a real hard mistake to make.
Eddie Murphy
Back in 1997, Eddie Murphy was stopped by police with a transvestite street worker in his car. Eddie tried Teddy’s line and said that he was “just giving her a ride home,” but no one believed it was true.
It was rumored that the transvestite was working on a tell all book, but before it could be released he mysteriously fell to his death. It was said he locked himself out of his apartment men and climbed up the fire escape to get in, but fell and died. Additionally, it has been rumored he a Johnny Gill, who lived with him were involved for years.
George Michael
Eddie wasn’t the only one caught out there in the nineties. In 1998, George Michael was caught in a “lewd act” with a man in a public bathroom. George officially came out to CNN later that year:
“This is as good of a time as any… I want to say that I have no problem with people knowing that I’m in a relationship with a man right now. I have not been in a relationship with a woman for almost 10 years.”
Cynthia Nixon
The “Sex In The City” star was caught living with another woman by The New York Daily News in 2004. Nixon admitted to being gay after the scandal broke. But then she shocked and upset the gay community by saying that homosexuality was a choice.
Lance Bass
Lance Bass was outed by pretty much everyone who’d ever met him. But n 2006, he finally came out to the world via People Magazine:
“The main reason I wanted to speak my mind was that (the rumors) really were starting to affect my daily life. Now it feels like it’s on my terms. I’m at peace with my family, my friends, myself and God so there’s really nothing else that I worry about.”
Pope Benedict XVI
Ever wonder why the last pope was ushered out of office in a hurry? Recent reports from the Italian daily newspaper suggest that it’s part of the fallout from a sex abuse scandal.
Apparently, there was proof that Pope Benedict XVI was part of the sex scandal. The people who had the evidence were trying to blackmail the church via the pope. To avoid a scandal, the Benedict resigned. He was the first pope to step down in 600 years.
The former pope’s spokesman has neither confirmed nor denied the allegations. However, for the first time in history a Pope did not die in office. According to reports the authorities were going to storm the Vadican and arrest the Pope about the allegations when he was a Cardnial. Read all about it here on my blog.
